We've lost our sense of sacredness in the Church. It's happened slowly yet progressively over the past 4 decades and now... well... here we are. "So you could not keep watch with me for one hour?" - Matthew 26:40.
I know I'm not the only one who has witnessed it... someone's cell phone blaring out some stupid ring tone during Mass... someone actually answering their phone and starting a conversation in the pew... someone scrolling on their phone while in line for Holy Communion.
So this news story is just one more proof of how far our society has drifted into self-worship rather than Jesus-worship. Surprise? No. Pathetic? Absolutely.
