  1. Mercy Jesus

From the recording Mercy Jesus

Late one night I was unable to sleep and did what I often do in those situations: I picked up my guitar and played quietly in the darkness. I began finger-picking the chord sequence of a song of mine but that song is a rocking, upbeat, loud song (not released yet). But on this night I wasn't feeling to rockin'. I was praying to the Holy Spirit to reveal unconfessed sin and I began to call on the mercy of Jesus... all while finger-picking the guitar chords very quietly and meditatively. The end result was that I wrote this song. I performed this song at a concert in Florida and afterward a lady came up to me and pointed out to me what she felt was the single most significant word in the lyrics. It gave me reason to pause as I had not intended it to be... but her insight was uncanny and showed me how the Holy Spirit works in my songwriting. Read the lyrics as you listen to the song... then send me an e-mail if you think you know what word she singled out.

Lyrics

Look into the mirror in the morning lightWhat do I see?A stranger with those lonely eyes,He's staring, staring, staring at me
I used to know your name, used to play your gamesBut darkness now is fadingAnd the sunlight is shining, shining for me
Mercy Jesus, here I amMercy Jesus, take my handMercy Jesus, cover meMercy Jesus, help me see... who I am
I could move the mountains and I couldI could calm the raging seaAt least that's what the preacher man is saying,Saying, what he's saying to me
Too many roads I've taken, too many friends forsakenYou just don't realize how many timesI've nailed Him to that tree
Mercy Jesus, here I amMercy Jesus, take my handMercy Jesus, cover meMercy Jesus, help me seeWho I am, who I am, oh won't You help meHelp me seeOh, oh, mercy Jesus, help me see
Look into the mirror in the morning lightWhat do I see? That the darkness now is fading and the sunlightIs shining, shining for me
Mercy Jesus, here I amMercy Jesus, take my handMercy Jesus, cover meMercy Jesus, help me see
Mercy Jesus, here I amMercy Jesus, see my tearsMercy Jesus, hear my cryMercy Jesus, forgive meMercy Jesus, here I amMercy Jesus, here I am againMercy Jesus, here I am
